Homeopathy for Hay Fever

Constitutional treatment during the winter months (October to March) will lessen Hay Fever symptoms the following year. I suggest to start specific constitutional treatment for hay fever in January. I will then setup a individual plan specially for you.

Homeopathic remedies are safe, effective and non-toxic.

The following are remedies that are often used to ameliorate the symptoms of hay fever. Other remedies may be needed and if symptoms persist contact me and I will either give you some additional advice or arrange a consultation.

If symptoms persist you should also consult your GP.

Allium Cepa

Symptoms include a streaming nose with a burning discharge, and watery, stinging eyes with bland secretions. You may experience violent sneezing and a tickling cough.

Arsenicum

Use this remedy when the mucus membranes of the eyes and nose are affected and the secretions extremely acrid. There is often a sensation of coldness or/and anxiety and the nose produces a watery discharge but can also feel stuffed up.

Arundo

Itching is the main symptom of this remedy, Itching eyes, roof of mouth and back of throat also inside ears. There can also be a lot of sneezing and loss of smell.

Euphrasia

A remedy with a special affinity for the eyes. They can be itchy, with burning tears, red eyes and swollen lids. Watery discharge from the nose with sneezing Can also be present. These symptoms are opposite of Allium Cepa, the tears burn, but the secretions from the nose are bland.

Gelsemium

If you need this remedy your nose is runny or burning and dry. Eyes can feel hot with heavy swollen eyelids. Throat feels dry, burning and tingling and your face feels flushed and heavy looking.

Sabadilla

This is very useful for continuous and violent sneezing and frustrating, itching and tickling in the nose. One nostril may be blocked while the other streams, this is probably worsened by the smell of flowers. Watery and burning eyes may also be present. Sinus pains over eyes. You could also have a sensation of a lump at the back of the throat witch makes you want to swallow.

I suggest to take these remedies one three times a day, potency 30. If the symptoms are strong you can take the remedy once hourly for 3-4 doses. Always stop with improvement.

Tissue Salts

The New Era combination for Hay Fever consists of Mag Phos (which relaxes spasms in the air passages), Nat Mur (watery thin discharges from nose and eyes) and Silica (itching at the back of the throat at the orifice of the Eustachian tubes).

Other tissue salts which might help include:

Kali Phos helps with asthmatic reactions to pollen, nourishes the nervous system, and helps tiredness.

Kali Mur helps shift thick catarrh; tongue is white.

Nat Mur for copious, watery, thin discharges from nose and eyes (worse sun).

Ferrum Phos to relieve congestion and inflammation.

Adults should take 4 tablets 3-4 times a day, or 4 tablets half-hourly if Hay Fever is very acute. Children should take 2 tablets on the same regime.

When taking homeopathic remedies you should always avoid touching the remedy, pop it straight into your mouth and let it dissolve there – don’t swallow it!

Try to avoid eating anything for 10-15 minutes before and after taking the remedy.
